5 Comics To Watch
Batman Inc. #10 (D.C.) – Grant Morrison’s Batman run continues to speed towards the finish line. We’ve had many memorable moments during his time working on The Batman, but it’s all coming to an end as of issue #13. Batman continues to deal with a death in the family…and its only a matter of time before he confronts Talia and Leviathan head on in an epic battle to end all battles. As someone who’s been reading since Batman and Robin #1 (pre NEW 52), I’m on pins and needles waiting to see how it all shakes out.
East of West #2 (Image) – If you weren’t all over this new Jonathan Hickman series last month, shame on you. Issue #1 blew my mind in all the ways Image Comics have been blowing my mind lately, and it debuted in the Top 40 on the Diamond Comics top 200 Charts, right behind cult favourite Saga. This series not only is going to be huge, it awesome in so many ways.
Guardians of the Galaxy #2 (Marvel NOW!) – I tried. I really, really tried. But curiosity got the better of me, and I picked up the .1 and #1 issue a couple of weeks ago, and thoroughly enjoyed what I read and saw. This series is already super hot, and no doubt there will be a lot of people wanting to jump on in the coming months. Beat ‘em to the punch…pick up #1 and #2 so you can claim you ‘read the comic’ as the hype around the movie continues to build.
Jupiter’s Legacy #1 (Image) – Mark Millar’s 10 Part story about a pair of ‘super’ siblings living in the shadow of their super famous super hero parents kicks off this week, and all I can say is…don’t sleep on the Image goodness. Heroes World has become the home to all things awesome when it comes to Image, and the boys have given this series its stamp of approval by bringing in a healthy quantity of first print #1’s. You may have slept on Manhattan Projects, Saga, Fatale and East of West…but its not too late folks. You can still be one of the cool kids! Oh yeah, Frank Quietly is on art. Don’t know who he is? Google him!
New Avengers #5 (Marvel NOW!) – You might think I’m Jonathan Hickman’s biggest fan by the way I carry on about him, but honestly, his crafting on this story about Marvel’s Illuminati has teased some pretty epic things ahead…and when it comes to building a story, there may not be a better writer in comics today. Iron Man, Namor, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and co. are attempting to stop the end of the world…while hoping that Captain America doesn’t ever find out what happened in issue #3. Problem is…its only a matter of time. And when he does…
Hidden Gems
Manhattan Projects #11 (Image) – Its at the top of my monthly Top 10, it just got nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series and Best Writer…but for whatever reason, it still qualifies as a Hidden Gem. I know…I don’t get it either. I look forward to this book coming out more than maybe any other book on the shelf. Why are you not reading this series already? I want answers!
