Avengers Vs. X-Men #4 (Marvel) – Things are getting dicey. Both sides are all-in now, so the fight is about to get nastier. Cyclops shows no signs of backing down, Cap too…and the Phoenix Force is getting closer every minute. Poor Hope really has no idea what’s she’s in the middle of…and before all this is said and done, that girl will probably not be able to trust a single person for a long time…outside of Big Daddy Cable. Where is he by the way…

Daredevil #13 (Marvel) – Another solid issue of what is one of the best Marvel books going right now. Its certainly got a ‘light hearted’ feel, despite the deadly serious plot…and the art continues to make it feel like an Archie comic (but in a good way). Just a good, fun, colourful superhero comic book!

Justice League #9 (D.C.) – While Justice League continues to hover just outside my Top 10, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how much I’ve enjoyed Johns’ run thus far. Sure, it’s a popcorn comic book, and not as ‘deep’ as many of the other books that I’m into, but getting to see Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and The Flash all under one roof, kicking butt and taking jabs at each other while doing it is just too much fun to pass up. Oh, and Jim Lee is back on art duties!

Manhattan Projects #3 (Image) – So good! Sorry, that’s all you’re going to get out of me. Issue #2 hasn’t sold out yet…I’m very disappointed. Seriously people, if you missed issue #1, don’t let that stop you from picking up #2 and #3 and getting into this awesome Hickman/Pitarra creation. Albert Einstein is a badass!

Hey all!  It’s time for a new Podcast!  We get a little crazy here and pretty much fire up the typical comic fan debate of “who wins a fight ??? or ???”.   Arguments ensue…character loyalties come into play and just general shouting occurs.  Also we discuss what would we like to see if Marvel and DC were to trade a few characters.  Hope ya’ll enjoy!

Every Wednesday is new comic day!  Youngneil has the run down of what came out this week!

All-Star Western #8 (D.C.) – Well, its taken a good 6-7 months of mentioning how much I’ve been loving this book for it to finally be gaining some traction at Heroes World. Jon read Issue #7, and thought it was super cool…and it was! Jonah Hex in a 1800’s Gladiator Arena with a badass hot chick who wants to go a couple of rounds with the gunslinger? What’s not to like? With great ‘western’ style dialogue, interesting plots and characters, this is one of the unsung books of the NEW 52. Not too late to jump on board…and with next issue being a Night of the Owl’s crossover, I have a feeling there will be even more All-Star fans by this time next month!

Aquaman #8 (D.C.) - While I’m not guilty of the typical ‘but its Aquaman?!?!’ response when it comes to this book, I am still waiting for it to stop being so good. I just can’t believe that we’re now 8 issues in and I’m a) still reading and b) still digging this book. To all you believers who listened to Jon and Andre when they recommended this book when it started…congrats! To all you who missed the boat…as Nelson would say…’HA HA’!

Avengers Vs. X-Men: VS #1 (Marvel) – If you’ve been reading Avs.X and thought to yourself, ‘needs more action’…then hold onto your butts, cause this is the book for you. Billed as the ‘one on one’ fight book of the Avs.X event, VS should deliver great ‘Street Fighter’ style match-ups featuring some of your favourite heroes pitted against each other. I’m sure Marvel is pushing it as an important tie into the ‘main event’, and pretty much anything connected to this event, even during the lead up (Avengers: X-Sanction, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men) has been very well done, so this will probably be very cool as well! Magneto vs. Iron Man anyone?

Daredevil #11 (Marvel) – Not only has Daredevil been one of my most recent additions to my pull list, but over the past 2-3 months, its been one of my favourite titles from a ‘total package’ standpoint. Throw in the fact that this issue is the finale to the so-far-so-great Omega Effect crossover, and you’ve got a must read book. Seriously, anyone who calls themselves a fan of comic books and super heroes owes it to themselves to pick up a couple of back issues of Daredevil and if you’re still not impressed…well…I don’t know how to end this sentence.

The Flash #8 (D.C.) – Not only can I not believe that the guys forgot to pull my copy of The Flash…but the fact that I missed it as well is just…well…wrong. My #2 book in my Top 10 and I FORGET to pick it up? And I call myself a fan. The fact that I’m going to have to run in and pick it up before it sells out tomorrow has me already pretty nervous. I may not be able to sleep tonight. (yes…The Flash is THAT good people!)

Spaceman #6 (Vertigo) – Is it safe to start talking about Spaceman yet? Easily one of the most ‘difficult’ books I’ve picked up in a while, in so far as its dialogue and setting are hard to get used to. I find with this title that I’m better off saving 2-3 issues up before reading them…because reading them a month apart takes me out of the ‘rhythm’ this book requires in order to get it. But I, along with a few other readers are getting it…and what we’re getting is one of the most unique, and ‘strange’ stories told in a while. This book isn’t for everyone, but like Manhattan Projects and other ‘difficult’ fare, if you’re up to the challenge, then you will be rewarded with something pretty special!

Uncanny X-Men #11 (Marvel) – While I haven’t been blown away by Avengers Vs. X-Men thus far, I have been very impressed with both Wolverine and the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men for setting up the story the right way, and showcasing both sides of the X-Men coin in this little dispute. I’m talking about Team Wolverine and Team Cyclops. Wolverine and the X-Men has been an outstanding blend of humour, character development, and large and small plot threads. Uncanny X-Men on the other hand picked up where ‘The Dark Angel’ saga left off while it slowly showed us this new ‘side’ of Cyclops that’s been developing since Second Coming. I think he’s lost his mind…but if you want to really get to the bottom of what’s up with ‘Slim’, then this title is a must read. Stuff is about to hit the fan…I can smell it!

New Comic Day!

Every Wednesday is new Comic day folks!!  Neil has posted his usual great rundown of what’s out this week.

Avengers Vs. X-Men #2 (Marvel) – Issue #1 got the party started right away…the first shot has been fired, and both teams will be on high alert as they attempt to prepare to take on the other side. Some have said that they thought Cyclops came off a bit ‘harsh’ in the first issue, but if you’ve been reading since Second Coming and Schism, you know that this has been brewing for a while. The X-Men leader has clearly lost perspective, and there doesn’t seem to be anyone around who can tell him to check himself. Wolverine used to be the guy who did that…but the two of them aren’t on speaking terms. And I still think Magneto is up to no good…that guy just can’t be trusted. It’ll be interesting to see what’ll happen if he’s the one who ends up saving the day…might be the one to ‘remove’ Cyclops himself?

Batman #8 (D.C.) – So what can I say about Batman that hasn’t already been said? By now, most of you reading these weekly posts should be reading…and many of you are! With that said, this issue marks the beginning of the ‘Night of Owls’ crossover that’s been set up by the soon-to-be classic first arc of Batman. If the first 7 issues are any indication, this ‘event’ might just rival Avengers Vs. X-Men for quality…and who knows…maybe even issues sold? The guys brought in a ton of copies, so if you aren’t able to grab one…come in sooner!

Justice League #8 (D.C.) – Well, after my mini rant about how Jim Lee was a bit overrated, he hit a home run with his final issue, #6. Issue #7 set the stage for the next arc with a new artists (for the time being), and with the ‘Super 7’ now having been together for a while, we’ll probably get to see some of those great individual characteristics come to the forefront.

Manhattan Projects #2 (Image) – I loved the first issue, and can’t wait to crack open issue #2. This book has ‘youngneil’ written all over it, and if first issue was any indication of where this book is going, which is anywhere, then I’m going to be looking forward to each and every issue as soon as I finish the last one! Still time to get on this book…I highly, highly advise it if you like something ‘different’ from the normal superhero fare.

The Punisher #10 (Marvel) – Part 2 of the ‘Omega Effect’ crossover between Avenging Spider-Man, Daredevil and Punisher looks like it’ll be a ton of fun…and really, really violent. The 3 heroes are on a mission to draw out as many bad guys after the Omega Drive as they can with a ‘one night only’ war on crime. Yeah…sounds awesome, right!?!? Part 1 was!

Wolverine and the X-Men #9 (Marvel) – One of my favourite books of the past 6 months, Wolverine and the X-Men continues as the war between the Avengers and X-Men is sparked. What side will Wolverine, who’s an established member of both teams, take? What side will the students take? Or will they even be allowed to choose a side, as Wolverine attempts to keep them out of the battle to come? Will this book continue to give us a great blend of action, comedy and drama? Lots of questions…only Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo know for sure…that is, until you pick up this issue and read it for yourself. I have a feeling Wolverine and the X-Men will be one of the essential ‘non-essential’ books when it comes to companions to Avs.X.
